BECOME A VOLUNTEER

All parents know that those early years before children go off to school are vital in a child's life and at Home-Start we believe parents have the key role in creating a secure chldhood for their children. It's just that sometimes they need a bit of help.....your help. Our volunteers, who know about being a parent, support other parents by visiting them in their own homes for a couple of hours each week.

The only real "qualification" Home-Start volunteers need is expereince of bringing up children. Friendliness and a caring attitude are essential as well as an understanding of the pressures of parenting. All volunteers participate in a preparation course which is accredited by the Open College Network. Volunteers say that they get a lot out of volunteering and it may even be a step on the ladder for the next job. Training and support continues while you are volunteering.

As a volunteer you will receive out of pocket expenses.

All Home-Start asks of its volunteers is to commit to one year of volunteering, understand that support for families is completely confidential. An enhanced criminal bureau record check is carried out on all volutneers.

If you have any unanswered questions after reading this material please get in touch with us and we will be only too pleased to help.
